Tonetjek

Why tone matters more than being right

Most co-parenting arguments are not about the facts. They start when one message carries blame, an absolute, or a reference to something that happened years ago, and the other parent answers the tone instead of the question. A calmer message is not a weaker one: it is more likely to get the yes, no or date you actually need.

The three things that usually set a message off

Absolutes (“you always”, “you never”), character judgements (“irresponsible”, “selfish”), and history (“like last time”). The checker highlights them so you can see them before your co-parent does. Keep the fact, drop the verdict.

Structured messages get answers

Topic, facts, request, deadline. When a message is laid out like that, the other parent knows what you want and by when, and it is much harder to answer with anything other than the answer. PeaceParent’s structured messaging does this for every request in the app.

Questions parents ask

Does the Tone Checker read my message to my co-parent?
No. It reads the message you paste here and gives you a suggestion. Nothing is sent to anyone. You decide what to do with the result.
Is the message stored?
No. The text is processed by OpenAI to produce the result and is not stored by us. We record that a check happened, its language, text length, response time and tone rating, nothing more.
Will it make my message sound fake?
The rewrite keeps every practical point, question and date. It removes blame, absolutes and sarcasm. If it reads too soft, use the structured version instead: it keeps things factual without changing your voice.
What does “escalating” mean?
That the message is likely to start or worsen a conflict. Common causes are “always” and “never”, character judgements, references to old grievances, and threats about court or lawyers.
How is this different from Tone Guard in the app?
The app checks each message as you write it, inside the conversation with your co-parent, so you never have to copy and paste. This page is a preview of the idea.
